Day 2 – AFET: Insecurity in the EU. Can the future be predicted?

The second session of the AFET Committee started with the worst way possible. The President of the European Parliament was abducted and his life may be in danger. The fellow MEPs of the board all came in shock after watching the video of the President’s kidnaping. They all drew to the conclusion that Europe, now more than ever, should come together, stay unified and come to a common policy in order to reinforce its defense system. As Mr. Andrigiannakis (EPP Party) said: ‘’We can’t be weak anymore. It’s time to decide.’’

Following this crisis incident, the board continued the debate with each MEP taking the floor and presenting their point of view about the EU-US Relations in terms of trade and security, mostly. Then, a Q&A followed from the MEPs to the Commissioner. Thereafter, the moderated caucus took place, in order for the working paper to be made.

In brief, the working paper should have been more elaborated in order for the member states to be able to implement it. Consequently, the board took another moderate caucus so that it could make the necessary adjustments. Thus, everything is set for a fruitful debate for tomorrow!
