Day 3 – ITRE: Rupporteur OR Supporter

Session two starts with a two women show by our honorable board! The bonding of our committee is incredibly strong and the two pillars of ITRE are firstly collaboration and secondly communication in order to find common ground. In the first moderated caucus MEPs talked about the progress in their unmoderated caucus, ”We may are strong alone but we assure that we are stronger together”, said Mr. Simeonidis from S&D. Afterwards an unmoderated caucus has begun and central issue is to redesigned some of the old prepositions that have made and to make a new working time about legal issues. So the MEPs work incredibly strong and constructive for 35 minutes, some of the propositions in this new draft are very important for this big manner of Artificial Intelligence especially, the motion refers to, highly encourages developers of AI programs and robots to hire experts in the field so that products of such nature that make it to the market are both users- friendly and without exploitable loopholes. Another encouraging preposition in this paper draft is the proposals to the legislative institutions of EU to structure a mandatory insurance scheme for automated of AI that will share the burden equally between AI developers and users.

The progress of this draft is amazing; MEPs in the unmoderated caucuses try to make one final draft with all the clauses inside one by one about all the topics that have been mentioned in the moderated caucuses. Definitively the Artificial Intelligence and the topics that includes are plenty, ITRE MEPs try to refer to all the possible issues that they can, of course with the help of our Board Ms. Tilemachou and Ms. Papanikolaou. Another topic that is placed in the working paper is the Intellectual Property, the draft proposes the more strict protection of Intellectual Property rights for designers, through means such as but not limited to: a. the establishing of clear agreements on IP between innovators and third companies, so as for IP violations to be easily detected and afterwards penalized, b. the procurement of early priority dates to determine a “first to file” patent system, c. the collaboration between the European Union and the Word Intellectual Property Organization in order  to encourages creativity and promote innovation.

In the unmoderated caucuses the MePs vote for the Rapporteur who is going to represent the committee of ITRE, the Rapporteur of ITRE this year is Mr. Apostolos Simeonidis from S&D who came first with 8 votes, second came Mr. Oikonomakos from EPP with 6 votes and third Mr. Kitis from S&D with 5 votes.
