Let’s play then: the work at the AFET Commitee begins now!

By K. Simopoulou

The second session of the AFET Committee was a rather eventful one. It started out with a moderated caucus concerning the matter of Ukraine and after that the eurasian economic union and its impact on the european neighborhood policy.

And while everything seemed to flow smoothly, a crisis occured. BBC revealed that EU undermines the political regimes of the eastern partner countries, making that way a clear intervention in national policies.

As we can understand, after this revelation the debate got on fire. S&D talked about the initial goals and principles of the union, while the EPP Party said that we should not point the finger to the whole Europe. Saturday evening closed with the unmoderated caucus and the forming of alliances. There were many demands for the extension of the caucus and the chairman had to be strict about the creation of the working papers.

Then Sunday came. And while the participants began with the introduction of their working papers, it was revealed that Ms. Sklirou, the German EPP member of the AFET Committee was the spy in the whole “Turquoise Revolt” project. The S&D asked from Ms. Sklirou to resign and from her fellow MEPs to encourage her resignation, while the EPP and ECR MEPs seemed to stay united against the false-according to them-accusations. Strong words were spoken this morning at the AFET Committee, with the left party to talk about espionnage and Ms. Sklirou to state that “she will not lose the right to represent people”.

We are sure that the rest of the day will be equally interesting.
