Commission’s Recommendations on Foreign Policy

By M. Mitsea

The final day of EUropa.S found the European Commission negotiating and discussing about foreign policy. The foreign affair issue refers to the first eastern partnership that was achieved; between EU and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine and Republic of Moldova. Its goal was the support of regional cooperation and the progressive improvement of EU’s relations with its partners. However, the EEU relations after the intervention in Crimea and the short war in Georgia by Russia got worse the situation for EU.

As the Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, Kourtelis stated the post-soviet countries may have the opportunity to become members of the EU as to be avoided an upcoming intervention from Russia, however that will happen in a long run. Specifically it was stated that for Armenia the negotiations will be continued, the accession of Georgia to the EU needs some years in order to be accomplished; but as far as concerns Ukraine ,like the  Jean-Claude Junckerhas appointed, it will take more than twenty or twenty five years for its entrance to EU.

The policy of Commission in Foreign affairs was moderated as they promoted to keep the sanctions to Russia as far as concerns to East Partnership; they Commissioners decided that the EU will stay committed to the agreement with the country-members and that they hope for further economical and trade agreements.
