Should Russia ‘stay’ or should she ‘go’?

By M. Garefalaki

The first conference of the ITRE committee was held at the second day, marked with the outstanding participation of the representatives of each nation.

The whole spirit of the meeting was that the European Union can’t really trust Russian Federation. Mainly, this is due to the crisis that bursted in 2014 between Russia and Ukraine, which still goes on, although not in the same scale as before. On the other hand, Mr. Lavdas stated that we can indeed trust the country, although, only in a small part of the negotiations. Moreover, the majority said that the European countries should, with baby steps, be independent and form a union, so that each one can support each other, when it comes to gas supply.

The highlights of the meeting were the entrance of the President of the European Parliament, Mr. Pierros, as well as the one’s of the Commissioner of Energy, Mr. Lavdas.

Something that really draw my attention was the interaction between the members, unlike the previous committee, which I found really constructive. The representatives could propose their ideas, while they also formed question towards to the other members.
