The third day of the conference started with the merge of the two working papers of the previous day. During a moderated caucus, that took place, after the merge most MEPs said that they were satisfied with the result of their work and that the collaboration was good among the members of the different political parties. Although, a tension within the committee was clear. During the unmoderated caucus that was called to merge the two papers they essentially continued that way, and some of the MEPs felt that their voice wasn’t heard. That resulted in complaints of MEPs to the board after the suspension of the meeting for the coffee-break.
After the break, the discussion about the working paper was interrupted by the announcement that after the Baltic Sea crisis, the Prime Minister of Denmark resigned from his position and the Swedish Government expects the energy agency to take full responsibilities for their actions. Also, the commissioner paid a visit to the committee and the MEPs raised all their questions. Some of the questions that were posed included inquiries about reforms in the Common Fishing Policy and the establishment of a European Coast Guard, in order to combat illegal fishing.
After the lunch-break and the family photo, the committee assembled again to discuss the draft committee report. The reading was held and the MEPs discussed in a moderated caucus what the amendments they would like to see. The discussion was once again got heated between the Left and the Right Parties. This showed clearly that although both sides wanted to achieve the common goal to deploy Blue Growth in the best possible way, they can’t have a common ground for a long time.
After the last visit of the commissioner, the MEPs finalized their amendments in an unmoderated caucus. The committee proceeded to a vote upon the resolution.
Afterwards, the MEPs spent the remaining time writing on each others placates and the Funny Awards. The categories were future Diplomate, future Dictator, most likely to end up in jail, most beautiful, most handsome, best dressed, sleeping beauty, best butt, most likely to be poisoned, and best MEP. The winners have jet to be announced, and the MEPs are waiting with anticipation the results.
