European Council Opening Meeting – EC

By M.Garefalaki

The first meeting that took place in the European Parliament Information Office in Athens, served as an introduction of the European Council committee ‘Strengthening the EU’s counter-terrorism strategy: improvement of the efficiency of the new EU Global Strategy and Security Policy’.

Each and every European nation expressed its concerns regarding to the high rise of terrorism in the last few years, something which was, sadly, confirmed once again, with the latest attack in Stockholm.

Moving forward with more details, Germany and the U.K. suggested the opening of the borders, as well as regulated actions against the ‘plague’ that it is called terrorism. Many cards were put on the table, although, there seem to had been conflicting policies, when it came to Hungary. This is because the Hungarian national government policies referring to the refugee crisis and to the human rights, are in total contrast to those of the European Union’s.

In general, anyone could presume that today’s discussion was a well-structured presentation of each national policy.
