ECR Elections

IMG_20190420_112036” And the vote goes to…”

In EUropa.S 2019 and more specifically in the first session, there was the election for the ECR party leader. The candidates were two: Mr. Stylianos Kechagias (ITRE) and Mr. Christos Tsialamanis (ITRE). It is imprortant to mention that Mr. C. Tsialamanis didn’t show up and the election of the President was oneway.
To begin with, the ECR Party is center right – right and believes in wide open borders not only in Europe but international. As they outlined, “we should show respect to other people from all over the world but we should recieve the same respect”.
From the 14 MEP’S of ECR party, 11 of them have voted in favor of Mr. Kechagias. In his speech the word ‘trust’ has played a crucial role, because as he said,  it can connect the field of politics with democracy for a more united and peaceful Europe. Furthermore, Mr. Kechagias supported a more skepticistic point of view and he believes that the ECR party is one of the few parties in European Parliament, which listens to the voters and functions with flexibility.
Moreover, the points of motions on the floor that stood up were 4, one for each committee. More specific: security threats in transportations for TRAN comittee, Europe’s and the U.S affairs for AFET committee, the use of A.I (Artificial Inteligence) for anticipating cyber security threats for ITRE committee and last but not least, the digitalization of education nowadays for CULT comittee.
Finally, the MEPS continued with their common policies and guidelines agenta after the election of Mr. Kechagias. To be said, Congratulations to Mr. Kechagias!!
